We decided this trip we wanted to stay through July 24th to celebrate Pioneer Day and for Brian to run the Deseret News Marathon. He regretted signing up for this run sometimes when it was 1,000 degrees outside in Texas and he needed to do a long run. He also realized he didn't have a place to practice running on a decline and knew he would be sore afterwards, but was still excited to do it! Tiffany and I decided to join in on race day and run the 10k together and had A LOT of fun! Tiff is a pro at talking and running so the race went by really fast having fun conversation and a lot of me listening to her because I am not as in good of running shape as her!
Brian left super early to start the marathon, but Tiff and I got to the start line and the race started just as the sun was rising.
After we finished, Grandpa Russ, Grandma Teresa, Grandma Cindy and the kids met up with us to wait for Brian to cross the finish line and we had a fun time waiting in the street.
Brian took a little longer than we thought he would and I realized why as soon as I saw him...
You can't really tell from these photos, but his legs were hurting him something fierce and he was doing a run-shuffle at this point just to cross that finish line.
And of course he had a smile on his face. Because he is the best and doesn't let anything stop him.
Even though he didn't get his best time, it is always fun and awesome to watch him finish!
And that is still pretty dang fast!
He got some food and tried walking a bit but was getting up and down trying to relieve some of the pain in his quads-
We took a group picture and all of us but Tiffany headed to our van and she hopped on the bus to go to her van that we had ridden up in together-
We made it to our van ok, but Tiffany did not and the worst part was, we didn't even know it! The bus driver didn't know what was up and took her to where the marathoners parked to start the race at Rice Eccles stadium. Well, the 10k start was 3 miles away and she didn't have a phone!! She thought it was closer and that she would be able to find it ok, but it took her over an hour for her to find it! We felt so horrible once we found out what had happened and felt so bad we didn't just take her to her car. I will never let someone leave me without a phone again! She was such a good sport about it and chuckled when she was telling me, but I felt so bad. She is the best!
That evening we headed to Grandma and Grandpa Wilson's for some dutch oven cookin' and to celebrate Caden's 11th birthday! We had all the cousins, minus Ledoux, and had a really fun evening of water play, yummy food and family time-
Sure love these darling, silly kids!
