August Ends

We got back from Utah with a few days left in July, adjusted to being back home and got right back to some summer fun before school started three weeks later.

Kristen was out of town, so I helped out with her great kids a couple days and we loved getting to spend some time with the Duke kids!

Kickball became a thing with the kids for a few days and one night it was Adults vs. Kids and the kids were in heaven having all the adults play with them! The best part was that the adults didn't even take it easy on them and totally beat them.
You can see Brian over on third base (the basketball hoop is home plate) showing Eve his owie from when he fell down dodging the ball on his way to home base! He had a nice wound on his hand, but it was totally worth it. There have been several other kickball games with the kids and adults mixing together for the teams and the kids have totally loved it. Kickball is the best sport because ANYONE can play!

I love these pictures of Eve showing how girly, but tough she really is!

This girl LOVES everything princess to the nth degree, but can keep up with ANYTHING the boys are doing and it's adorable. I love her.

We went to the track one hot Saturday morning and then headed to the swimming pool right after and the kids were so excited that I got my hair wet!
Thad says he has never seen me get my hair wet when we have been swimming and he is probably right. He is 8.5 years old. Is that pathetic? I was even doing egg drop flips off the edge into the pool! I'm pretty cool. But they had better not get used to it.

Brian headed to San Diego for the big AAA conference and did a lot of schmoozing (not really, but kinda) and had some fun running and sight seeing a little bit.

We missed him bunches, but FaceTimed a lot so we could see that handsome face.
We also ate hamburgers so we could feel like we were in California too!

We finally made it to a local hot spot up in Georgetown called Blue Hole and the kids had a lot of fun!

We found a fun rope swing and the boys and dads had so much fun jumping in! I was kind of ornery that day (I can't even remember why) so I didn't wear my swimming suit, I just thought I would spectate but once we got there I totally regretted it. It was SO. SO. SO. HOT. I was just dripping sweat and couldn't do anything about it. We went with our friends the Peines and the Sheens and they probably won't be asking us to hang out any time soon because I'm so lame. You live and you learn, I guess.

Summer movies were in abundance at our house and one particularly steamy afternoon I got them to watch Wizard of Oz!
They ended up loving it (the popcorn and chocolate chips probably helped) and I did too! I have seen bits and pieces of it, but I don't think I had ever watched the whole thing straight through, so it was a lot of fun for all of us! I tried to convince them to do a Wizard of Oz theme for Halloween, but they weren't quite going for it. :(

And even though it was HOT we still had lots of fun in the sun-

 Last swim day of summer!

Solar Eclipse - August 21,2017
There was a lot of anticipation for the U.S. about the solar eclipse that would take place with the path of totality spanning America-
We had a few friends that headed to places like Idaho, Missouri and North Carolina to capture the awesomeness of Totality, but we couldn't do that this year (you better believe we will be back in Austin in April 2024 to witness it) so we headed to the city sponsored party to capture a glimpse of our 65% coverage of the sun. We got to go with our favorites, the Dukes, and ended up seeing several more friends while were there and had a REALLY good time! Even if it was 102* F.

We did not purchase our own glasses, so I am so glad that we were able to borrow and eventually get our own pair at the party because we would not have been able to see it otherwise. I was a little nervous about my kids looking at it directly (because tons of warnings all over social media and elsewhere), but they did so good and it was so hot and bright that they didn't even want to stare at it.

The library had some box viewers and some of these half circle things with pinholes to show that the circles were not complete and that was fun to see too!

Alyssa is the BEST and saved me from having to chase Eve up and down that ramp! Can you see the shininess on her neck and wet hairline? It was HOT.
We stuck it out and this is what it looked like with the most coverage for us-
Eve kept calling it the "moon sun" and it was the cutest.
No darkness or cicadas coming to life for us, but still lots of fun to be a part of and fun people to be with!

Once school started, Eve and I thought we might be a little lonely, but we managed just fine-

Love this chick!

Ms. Shelley (the best Pre-K teacher there will ever be) stopped by on the second day of school to see how Kinder was going for Wes. Seriously, she just wanted to make sure he was doing good and remind him of how awesome he was in her class and that he is awesome and will do well this year. I love her and my heart is so sad Eve will not be able to be taught by her.

Just showing her the details in his folder!
She is the best!

I love seeing these cute boys walk or ride their scooters down the street after school every day-

August was a good month for saying goodbye to an awesome summer and hello to the school and the security of a schedule that it brings. I have a feeling it's going to be a good school year!
