We headed to Dallas the day after Christmas to see the Utes play in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. We knew it wasn't a high profile game so tickets were a good price and if the Utes were going to be that close we didn't want to miss them!
Well, if we would have known it was going to be that cold, 36 degrees with a slight breeze, I can tell you for sure wouldn't have taken five kids and not worn boots and scarves and gloves and hats and all the warm things. Seriously? I had tennis shoes on because I thought I was going to need my galoshes and then it wasn't wet and then I was stuck wearing socks and tennies. And why didn't my boys have hats? And Brian no gloves? Texas has ruined us and our capabilities in the cold.
We all put on a happy face for a little while and got really excited about seeing them Utes! For a minute.
The above photo was taken before the game even started, I'm pretty sure. Nice, cold metal bleachers to sit on while we wait and try to convince ourselves it won't be that cold and we can make it...at least to half time.
Well, the kids (minus Thad), Kelsie and I decided a few minutes in that we wanted hot chocolate and for my kids it did the trick to get out of the beginnings of rain and run around, but June and Christian were not so easily convinced. They did their best and we watched a little more of the game and decided to move under the upper bowl to go and sit with Brian's Uncle Bryce and Aunt Sharlene who decided to come last minute.
Being covered helped a little bit, but Kelsie and her kids along with Wes, Eve and me decided we didn't care about making it to half time and decided to leave and head to the Handy's home in Southlake, about 30 minutes away. I had posted a picture on Instagram and Jamie told me to stop by on our way home but I called her and the second she answered the phone she said, "Are you freezing? Come to my house, it's on the big screen!" She is the absolute best and that's why I didn't hesitate to call. She has always had an open door at her house and this wasn't the first and I'm sure it's not the last time she will help us out and be the best hostess in the process!
The kids were so happy to play in her warm house and partake of the hot chocolate bar she had set up and the snacks she offered us. She was taking down her Christmas decor and it didn't surprise me one bit. Jamie doesn't waste a minute of any day, her house is always clean and she is always ready to entertain. I look up to her a lot and would love to have all my ducks in a row like she does. After a couple hours of imposing, it was time to take off and head south. I'm so glad I was able to see her and her awesome family!
We took it pretty easy the rest of the week just goofing off, playing with friends and eating yummy food...All indoors, of course, it was so cold!
Brian even took Thad on a little day date to his eye doctor appointment and then for lunch at Panda Express where he converted Thad to loving their orange chicken.
Brian had to document it because he suggests going there all the time and I say no. It's not that I don't like it, it's just never my first choice. Ever. So luckily he has a pal that will go with him now!
I don't have any other pictures to document the week in between Christmas and New Years, but I know it was a good one where we relaxed, slept in, played and enjoyed the coziness of Christmas. After going to Jamie's house and seeing lots of people on Instagram taking their Christmas decor down I almost felt like I needed to do it. Luckily I realized pretty quick that it didn't matter what anyone else was doing and that if I wanted to keep Christmas up, I would keep it up! I wanted to soak up all the moments of our last Christmas season spent in our home on Rock Shelf Lane and I did. I think it helped the kids to soak it up too. I love this time of year and I'm so glad we were able to enjoy it and relax and just be.
