August and Summer's End

Right after we returned to Texas Brian hopped on a flight to Chicago for an accounting conference. I kind of wish I would have made arrangements to tag along but thought about it too late in the game. I've never been there and would love to see that city. Luckily he was able to have a good time without me!

He even got to witness some filming of Chicago Fire! We aren't the biggest fans of that show, but love Chicago PD and they are kinda the same but Chicago PD is way better.

Lots of days were spent in the water to attempt an escape from the Texas heat!

Eve got all the boys' attention at pool day!

We even made a fun day trip to Barton Springs with the Dukes and it was phenomenal! My boys loved being in the "wild" and it made all the difference to have big kids around to help out with my littles. We sure love having the Dukes down here in Texas!

A happy day spent in the hill country!

Back in May I saw a Groupon for a Monster Truck rally and snatched up a few tickets for Brian and the boys. We didn't tell them because we didn't want Wes to ask about it ALL summer, so they were surprised and excited when Brian told them that's where they were going.

Not many words are needed, I think you can tell they had a fabulous time!

We had some ordinary moments passing the time on our long, hot summer days-
Snuggling in bed late into the morning,
testing dad's glasses,
resorting to playing games against yourself when mom refuses after the 50th round,
and painting cute as pie pictures!

We finally made it down to Austin to see the 1.5 million bats that come out and eat 20,000 of pounds of bugs every night!
We arrived a little over an hour before they made their appearance and we're glad we did because it's quite the attraction! Luckily we got a great spot on the grassy hill and were able to have some fun waiting for them.

And at about a quarter past 8 they made their appearance!

It took several minutes for them all to exit, and though it is such a random thing it was quite awesome! The kids loved it and we're so glad we've seen the famous bridge bats in Austin.

August and summer ended with our favorite dad's birthday-

And our school boys getting back to the books after a fabulous summer break-
1st grade & 20th grade

Thad's first day of FIRST GRADE!! How did this happen? I don't know, but I do know he was more than ready for it!
Dad was so kind and got up early to make the traditional rainbow pancakes for the first day of school.

And after getting pictures of my most wonderful, handsome 6-year old, we made it a family affair and all walked him to school.

Just in case you couldn't tell, he wasn't one bit nervous or hesitant. Go figure.
Here he is with his sweet teacher, Ms. Sayegh. She is fresh out of college and it is her first year teaching. She is excited to teach and Thad is excited to have her as his teacher!

He got straight to work and said goodbye without a second glance.
I sure love this confident school-goer of ours. Because he spends so much time at school I'm so glad I don't have to worry one bit about how he is handling it. He loves school and is one smart cookie.
We love you, first grade Thad!
I told Wes to show me how he felt about having Thad gone all day-
This is what he gave me. It's true, we were all sad :(

Goodbye summer, hello school year!
