I guess I have to add that Chandler Oaks and Mrs. Knight are pretty awesome too and that was a major factor in the great experience that was had by all.
A couple weeks before Thad was done with school, I got a letter informing me that he was the recipient of the Ambassador Award for the last quarter. I didn't realize that one student per class got it each quarter and I was so proud of him when I found out! It made me so happy to know that his teacher sees the greatness in him that I do.
On May 26 Wes, Eve and I (unfortunately no dad because he was taking his comprehensive exam and just couldn't miss) headed to school with Thad for a mini ceremony in the library for the recipients.
Here he is getting his medal from the Vice Principal-
And his certificate from the principal-
It was so cute how official they made it feel. It makes me so glad that the school goes out of their way to recognize kids and make them feel good.
We're so proud of our Thad and that he sets such a good example to those around him when he's away at school all day. Such a good moment for my mom heart.
The following week we all went to Chandler Oaks for Thad's music performance.
He was a little nervous to get up on stage, but it blew over quickly after he and Wes goofed off with a bunch of the kids before the program started.
Wes was kinda mad when we made them stop being hooligans-
He shaped up really quick, though!
I sure love our little family of 5.
iPhone pictures are never the best, but we captured our boy among all the other cute Kindergartners, and yes, he had his hands in his mouth wiggling his loose tooth most of the time.
He is a nut, but we love him! They sang a Spanish song and a couple other cute ones, but ended it with "Roar" by Katy Perry and it was adorable! Thad had told me they were learning a secret song, but he held it in and it was a great little surprise. They all knew the chorus really well and really did roar their little hearts out for it!
Cute Kinder folk!
The last few days of school were themed and the day before the last day of school was a read-a-thon/pajama day and I signed up and got to go read to Thad's class first thing in the morning.
We took some of his favorite books including, "The Book with No Pictures," "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog," and "The Monster Who Lost His Mean" among others. I got to read for about 15 minutes and it was so much fun! The kids were so polite and Thad was pretty pumped about having his mom at school-
And of course the rest of his entourage was there to enjoy the show-
These cuties have loved going to see Thad at school all year and I know Wes is just counting down the days until he steps foot into his own Kindergarten class...that will be a good day!
And finally, the last day did arrive!
First Day Last Day
Isn't he a stud? He has grown so much this year! It's hard to see when it's happening right before my eyes, but here is proof! I'm so proud of everything he accomplished this year in Kinder. At his end of year assessment, Mrs. Knight had nothing but good things to say and was happy with his improvement over the course of the year. He loves to read and ended the year testing at an end of 2nd grade/beginning of 3rd grade reading level...I sure hope he keeps it up and loves to read for the rest of his life!
That afternoon we headed up to his classroom as a family and attended his little end of year party with his class! Wes was excited, as you can imagine, and we just had a good time hanging out, chatting with other parents, watching the kids play games and have snacks and enjoy being a class one more day.
It's always fun to see Thad in his element. He made some good little friends this year and I hope we can set some play dates up for him to hang out with them over the summer!
Eve tried the coconut bowling-
But Thad showed her how to get it done-
Wes was a great helper with Limbo-
And Eve was quite the little attraction-
Isn't this so cute?! They all just gathered around to stare at her and she loved every second of it!
The party ended with certificates of completion and little awards for each child.
Mrs. Knight knows him so well and made his word collage into a basketball. She is seriously the best!
Cheers to Mrs. Knight and our wonderful Thad for a successful Kindergarten year.
Watching my kids learn is such a joy and I know every year may not be as amazing as this, but I'm excited to see what his future holds.
I caved and bought a year book for him and this is what he looked like walking home after his party-
I'm glad I got it because he as spent A LOT of time over the last week looking at it and pointing all his friends out. Kids love this stuff.
When we got home we poured over all the stuff that had been sent home in his back pack over the last couple weeks that was covering our kitchen table. We sifted through some papers and took some pictures to post here of the stuff that we didn't have room to hold on to-
These journals and folders had some great stuff in them and represent all the knowledge that entered that boys head these last nine months!
He completed this timeline a couple weeks before school ended and had so much fun choosing the pictures and events-
And here are some of his favorites from his art portfolio-
He made such great strides in the art arena this year, and although he's no Vincent van Gogh, he is really starting to get the hang of it. He is much more of a cut and dry numbers/reading guy, so we're really going to have facilitate a way for him to be creative over the years. I think it is such a good release for kids and I hope he can find some joy in it.
That night we celebrated Thad's success and the amazing, wonderful, incredible news that Brian passed his comprehensive exams at the pool with the Dukes, some of our very favorite people.
This precious girl very much enjoyed her first pool experience, as you can tell by her relaxed pose.
And there you have it -- a Kindergartner no more.
We couldn't be more proud of you, Mr. Thad!
