February Fun

February was a good month at the Monsen home. Our birthday/holiday excitement doesn't die down until after V-day is over, so it makes for an exciting month every year at our house!

Valentine's Celebrations
It doesn't seem like Vday should be too big of a deal, but with a birthday a few days prior and school having it be one of the three parties they throw throughout the year, it makes it a little more work than usual. When Thad was sick the week before, we got his box made and his Valentines addressed to make sure it was crossed off our list during birthday week!
When Thad asked me if I would come to his party, he was so happy when I said yes. I have been realizing how much he loves it when I come to his school and he loves it even more when I bring his little brother and sister, so he was extra excited that they got to tag along too!

Bird feeders were made:

Wes pouted about not getting his way...
but don't you worry, he was quick to cheer up!

Donuts were inhaled:
Poor Mrs. Knight! Their party was first thing in the morning, so they had donuts and conversation hearts before 9am!

Valentine's were exchanged:

And shameless hugs given:
I'm so glad I was able to spend that time in his class room with him and that he and Mrs. Knight always help Wes feel like a million bucks. Wes loved doing everything the big kids were doing and other than ruining one of Mrs. Knight's posters with a marker, he did pretty darn good! This school stuff is pretty fun and even though it can be busy, it's fun to see Thad in that environment where he is so independent.

I came back to the school just over an hour after the party to take these two birthday boys to the doctor for their well checks.
They were of course doing awesome and had a crazy time competing for attention. Thad doesn't usually compete, but Wes couldn't just let the doc talk to Thad, so when it was Wes' turn, it was all sorts of crazy! It's ok, they are still the best brothers in all the world!

Wes made some Valentines for his little friends:

And we spent the rest of Valentine's eve hanging out, eating pizza and enjoying a movie night like we do most Fridays-

The actual holiday was on Saturday, so we spent the day exercising, running errands, attending Thad's basketball game and luckily landing a reservation at Jack Allen's Kitchen with this cute lady-
We kind of splurged and tried bacon wrapped quail for our appetizer, and it did not disappoint!
For our treat we headed to Jamba Juice and enjoyed a healthy-ish end to our evening.
Eve would NOT look at me, but she sure looked cute in her daddy's arms!
We were only gone about 2 hours, but it was so great to just get away and feel like we could celebrate a little bit.
Happy Love Day to my little family!

I almost forgot! For FHE the week before Vday, we "Heart Attacked' the back door for the third or fourth year in a row and I loved what we all had to say about each other:
Dad:

Mom:

Thad:

Wes:

Eve:
Brian's to Eve, melts my heart! It is so true.
And here's where they hung out all month-
Thad would just randomly stop to read a few here and there. It was a lot of fun! And we really just do love each other tons!

WINTER?
We got a couple straight weeks in the middle of the month that we were enjoying shorts, no jackets and late nights playing outside!

I posted this picture on Instagram saying this:

Another winter night in Texas. I always want Thad to remember these fun, care free times we had in Texas. Life won't always be so simple.

And I've just been really feeling like this lately! Even though these days can be long and hard at home with littles every day, I have a feeling this is the easy stuff. We must embrace the simplicity that is our life in Texas right now. And I sure love watching that boy be a boy!

Cute Kids

Thad got a "master builder" set of Legos from his friend Griffin and it has inspired him to be more creative with his Legos. This is one of his rocket ships.
He also received a belated card from Uncle Riley and Aunt Jen and was over the moon about getting a $10 bill!

Thad has figured out that he can safely maneuver this girl, and if I leave her on the floor with him, I usually come back to something like this:

Talk about melting mama hearts over here!!

We had to send this to Grandpa Russ as he is in the thick of tax season-
And ain't it the truth (on both counts)!

Wes' nursery teacher brought in one of her house pets to visit-
His name is Beardy and Wes loved him as you can see!
Caroline has a couple of these and they roam her upstairs kinda like cats. Way weird, but totally awesome!

This guy came with me and sis to Ikea-
He is a perfect date!

Woodlands Marathon
On the last day of the month, Brian checked a major box that he has had on his list for a while!
Brian has been training several months for this, and even thought in December that he was out because his achilles was bothering him. Well, he got some great advice from a good friend and was able to manage/rehab it and continue his training. He sacrificed a lot of sleep and working/study hours to fit runs in, but he managed it like the champion he is and beat his goal of 3.5 hours!
Look at that time!
The race was down in Houston and it was forecast to be cold and rainy and I just didn't think hauling three kids three hours away was very good for my sanity. I regret not going a little bit because it was such a big achievement for him! He said it was really emotional and rewarding when he crossed the finish line and that he was so happy with his performance...and can't wait to do it again!
He is such an inspiration to our little family and I am so proud of his hard work and dedication, it really paid off.
Denny-Brian-John
These two guys from our ward ran it too, so it was fun to have some company for the race!
Brian and John rode together and stopped at the Blue Bell headquarters on their way home.
If you know Brian, you know he LOVES Blue Bell ice cream. Especially the Mint Chocolate Chip. He was in ice cream heaven and he and John may have had a little more than they usually would have considering their high calorie burn for the day!
We are so happy for this dad of ours!
Happy marathon!!!!
