March Snippets

March was a good month for us, and although we were sad to see spring break go, we still had a some fun.

I love having Wes as my little buddy to pal around with me when Thad is at school. There is rarely a dull moment!

He's also very cute when trying to act like his brother!

Thad loves reading lately and the Piggie and Elephant books by Mo Willems are by far his favorite. When he had to come inside because it was raining, he decided to take things into his own hands and enjoy the storm on the back porch.

We had some fun with friends this month:

Scott Jensen came to visit from Georgia! We miss our Connecticut homies so much and it was a breath of fresh air to spend a Sunday with him!

We couldn't go to Tyson's birthday party, so we spent a Friday night at Chick-Fil-A to make up for it, and as you can see, these sweaty boys had a blast!

On the friend note, we were lucky enough to finally meet up with Stew and Lorraine Dickson, some of Teresa's long time friends. She met them when she and Robert were first married and have kept in touch ever since. Stew is awesome and had his pictures organized very well and pulled out these gems from many years ago-

I especially love the bottom left where Teresa is 8 months pregnant with Brian and manages to fish, nap and catch some rays all at the same time! Now that is talent!

We had a fun St. Patty’s Day, but I think Thad is going to get serious about catching that leprechaun next year!

And they had to sport some green to make sure they didn’t get pinched!

I think green is their color.
Oh wait, I think every color is their color! I love them so much!!

And we'll just continue on the cutest-brothers-ever train:

And luckily these cuties love hanging out with their momma too:

How did I get so lucky?

And to top off our month, we got Wesley boy his first set of stitches!
I took Thad and him to my Relief Society activity to hang out in the nursery because Brian had a conference at school and wouldn’t be home until late.
Well, right at the end Shelley Nevin came and grabbed me because her husband, who had been helping watch the kids in the nursery, was holding a weepy Wes with blood on his white shirt and holding a paper towel to Wes’ brow.
He went on to explain that Wes bumped/got pushed into the chalk tray in the nursery and got quite the injury.
Brother Nevin is so awesome and got the bleeding to subside before notifying me, so I wasn’t too overwhelmed with the situation. They suggested I get him some stitches since it was pretty deep.
I, of course, got 100 loving opinions thrown my way about what to do and where to go. After getting a little nervous that he would need to be sedated to get the stitches, and talking to Brian, we decided to head to Dell Children’s Hospital.
I was so happy Brian was done with his meetings and could come to the church to meet me! I am also so grateful for friends like Kristen Duke who didn’t hesitate taking Thad home with her to have a sleepover with her kids. He was in heaven!Photo 5
We arrived in the ER and the wait didn’t seem too bad, but that was just waiting for triage…
Wes was a trooper and I wasn’t totally prepared and they wouldn’t let him eat just in case he did have to be sedated, so we were coming up with creative ways to keep him entertained.

We knew he liked ghosts, but this night he was totally obsessed and had Brian and I take turns drawing several ghosts – “Mommy ghost, Daddy Ghost, Thaddy Ghost and Wessey Ghost”—It was so funny!!
The nurse that evaluated him in triage loved him because he was being so funny and talking about his ghosts and whatever else he could think of! He is so awesome!

But, unfortunately, that is pretty much where the awesome ends.
We waited so long to head back to a room to get treated, and then waited in that room FOREVER.

Why don’t they just let you keep waiting in the waiting room/hall so your kid can run around and not pull on every cord and push every button possible?
He was full of beans and incredibly hyper at 12:30 a.m.! They ended up giving him an inhalant to calm him down and that really helped take the edge off his hyper.
They didn’t sedate him, which I was so glad about after having to do all that waiting, so one nurse, Brian and I ended up holding him down while he got two little stitches.
He freaked out and the dr had to redo one because it broke, but we all made it through just fine. We had to wait some more and then the worst part came: The Popsicle.
Number one, I dislike popsicles and their messiness in general, let alone at 1:30 a.m. when he wouldn’t hold it with the cup around the bottom to catch the drippage. We got out to the car and there was no way we were going to let him eat it in the van and he FREAKED OUT when we took it away.
Seriously, it was the worse part of the whole night. He screamed until we got some fries at McDonald’s and then when those were gone he cried until we were about 10 minutes from the house.
But to be honest, I don’t blame him. It was a crazy night and I didn’t listen to my inner parent voice saying, “No, don’t take the popsicle…” Lesson learned.

We got home around 2am and as you can see, he was pretty chipper the next morning and excited showing off his battle wound.
If we had to do it all again, we would have just gone to the urgent care because we had to end up restraining him ourselves anyways, and we wouldn't have had to do all the ER waiting.
You live and learn, right?!
We’re just glad his ok, and it’s just another story in the books.

Love you so much, our brave little Wes!!

Poor Wes! The popsicle commentary was my favorite part, only because I know those feelings well :)
