Road Trip to Rhode Island

At the beginning of the month we headed to Rhode Island for one last road trip to see Mike and Kaitie. Mike got a promotion and they moved back to Utah, so we are once again loners on the east coast. We had some fun times going to see them in Warwick, having them in Connecticut and meeting up with them in the city. We're so glad we had a short 2 years with them on the east coast!

We finally got on the road at about 9:00pm, filled up and headed out.
It's funny, because with Thad we road tripped like this all the time going back and forth from Logan to WJ, but with Wes this was his first time road trippin'. We have definitely lost our efficiency touch, hence the late start, but hopefully we'll fit in a few more before summer's end.
Both boys were gems the whole ride, and as you can see Thad had plenty of energy when we arrived in Warwick around 11:00pm -- even without sleeping the whole way!
Mike and Kaitie had just returned from a trip to Europe, so Mike was showing off the goods!
As you can see in the picture above, Thad was so happy he got to hang out with Mike.
They were buddies the whole trip, and Thad took this sweet picture of Mike!

Saturday morning we went to Beavertail and had a blast checking out the coast around this lighthouse.

We also checked out the gift shop and the "homemade" aquarium, as Mike described it.

We were also able to picnic here which was a ton of fun!
We spent an hour or two just lounging and playing while enjoying the beauty and quiet that surrounded us.

To end our fun afternoon at Beavertail...
Thad got to go check out the cliffs and rocks with Dad and Mike.

I don't know why, but I always love a picture of a zonked out kid.
I think it means they thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

We really wanted to check out Providence while were there, because although Kaitie and Mike live so close, we have never officially been to the city center. Luckily we got a private tour!

 Seriously delicious pizza!
It was such a perfect night to sit outside and enjoy pizza and fresh air with good friends.
Kaitie and Mike had told us about Water Fires before and it was something we didn't want to miss. This river goes right through Providence and they have Water Fires set up for a few miles.
The atmosphere was so fun and we're so happy we got to see this.
Thad was very intrigued and loved being up late.

 Exhausted once again.

Sunday we went church, packed up and checked out the wildlife surrounding their building before we left.
Since we visited the first time Mike has told Thad he would catch him a turtle. He didn't catch one, but as you can see from the picture he made a mighty fine effort! That water was pretty disgusting and he put his feet in and nearly went knee deep!
Luckily we saw his shell and several other tiny little turtles, so it was definitely a success.

We love the Hawkers a lot and wish them the best in SLC and are just happy they are somewhere we will still be able to see them.
