Right after school ended we got an email from Michael Duke telling us he was wanting to host a kids triathlon in their neighborhood. He had done it before and was wanting to start again and we jumped at the opportunity to enter our boys.
We got to their pool bright and early on Saturday, June 11 ready to race! When we pulled up and saw the finish line, the boys were even more ready!
Brian got assigned the job of writing their age on the the participant's calves and their number of choice on their arms. The kids felt totally legit with this minor detail!
Michael was running the show like a boss and it was fun to see it all come together for go time!
It was no surprise when Wes put his game face on and got down to racing business!
Wes Monsen, Ages 1-5
Swim: 10m
Bike: 1/2 mile
Run: 1/6 mile
On your mark,
Get set,
Go!
Wes was the only one in floaties, but he owned it and hustled hard!
He also had the tiniest bike, but owned that as well!
He double-timed it with his pedaling and got himself back to the exchange point quick!
See that tongue and how focused he is? He meant business.
I couldn't watch him running, but Brian said he checked over his shoulder about 12 times to make sure his competitors weren't gaining ground...
Nothing to worry about and he didn't stop pushing until he crossed that finish line...
And had to catch his breath!
He took second in his group and we were so proud of him! He has a fire in him that is going to take him far in competition.

Miss Eve wasn't too happy about her predicament-
She had a playground and swimming pool in sight, but the gate to the pool was open and I wasn't paying enough attention to let her out, so she ended up being a fan girl for both her brothers while strapped in the stroller.
Next up, Ages 6-11
Thad Monsen
Swim: 100m
Bike: 2 miles
Run: 1 mile
The swimming portion was tough for Thad because he was close to the smallest one in the pool and is not good at strokes or swimming in turbulent waters. He pushed through and dad helped him get dressed near the pool and he hustled out to his bike-
We knew the mile run was going to be pretty tough after swimming and biking, but he kept going and did not even think about giving up! It was hot and he was tired and he kept. on. going.
Go, Thad, go!!
He didn't win, and I don't think he was expecting to, and then I especially think he didn't care because he knew he gave it his all. He went hard and did everything he could and was happy with that. It was such a fun day watching our boys perform well!
After some leisurely swimming while waiting for the big kids to finish, it was award time!
Wes took first place boy in his age division and was so excited about his handmade trophy!
How adorable are all of these kids?
They were all pretty excited about those green ribbons and can't wait to get their next one!
How lucky we are to have such awesome friends that put together awesome events for no other reason except to be awesome?
Really lucky.
These two are a power couple and everything they touch basically turns to gold. It was so nice to not have to worry about taking one picture because I knew Kristen would capture it better than I ever could.
