The boys were so excited to get to Kanosh to have a camp out with dad on Grandpa Christensen's lawn. June thought she was excited to do the same with Uncle Todd, but quickly learned she was not! Todd and Kelsie spent most of the night trying to calm her down and get her to sleep and although it was not comical while it was happening, we can all laugh about it now! Brian had his own troubles that I was not aware of until he and I got up at 6am to get ready for the 5K. He said everything was fine until Thad *barfed* in the tent at 4am...aaaaahhhhhh!! I felt so bad that I had no idea and that he just cleaned it up with paper towels and water while Thad was just a sweetheart and stood out on the grass and shivered while he did it. They laid back down around 4:30 and at 5:00 Brian heard him hacking and got him out of the tent in time to hurl on the grass. Luckily Thad was able to fall back to sleep and I got to witness these darling brothers snuggling-
With that sweet image, we headed off to the 5K. There were supposed to be a couple more of us, but Brian and I ended up being the only ones...and guess what?
Brian killed it and took 1st place!
He was excited about coming in first, but he was more excited about beating this guy:
Jed beat him when we were in Kanosh a couple of summers ago and Brian was determined to not have a repeat. He said he didn't care if he came in second to last, as long as Jed was the one behind him. I love the cousin rivalry! I think Jed will be working on his running game over the next year!
And then I came in 40th place looking like a hot mess-
But hey, I ran the whole time and beat a lot of other people. :)
After the race, Thad barfing a couple more times and Eve waking up with the same thing, we somehow decided that heading to the parade was a good idea. And it ended up being awesome with only Eve barfing on the grass once.
Getting sprayed by the fire truck is always a hit!
And we wanted to make sure to get pictures with Grandpa before our group dwindled...we weren't sure how long it was going to last.
Wes and Thad wanted to make sure every last piece of candy was picked up before heading to the park!
So, Wes headed to the park with Grandma Teresa-
And Thad and Eve headed to Grandpa Great's while we packed up our stuff so we could leave at any given moment. We knew they were sick, but we didn't want to drive with barfing kiddos either. So they took it easy-
And we headed to the park. But before we knew it, all three men were down-
Eve and Thad fell asleep from not feeling well, and Wes fell off the spider web dome and literally cracked his head open and we couldn't let him play anymore. It was a rough morning.
All three ended up napping at the same time while we enjoyed our delicious lunch, but as soon as they woke we hit the road!
Not our best year in Kanosh, but somehow we still love the place!
It was a total bummer that we couldn't go to Caden's birthday bash at Riley and Jen's pool, but we decided that $10 worth of fireworks and some pizza would have to suffice for our evening celebrations.
Fireworks: Check
(They boys were obsessed with the Black Cat tent our entire stay and were just so excited to finally enter it)
Pizza: Check
Except we had to pay for our pizza. :(
And, the weather was absolute perfection.
So we picnicked and literally hung out in the front yard for the remainder of the evening.
The plan was to get everyone to bed early, but Grandma and Grandpa came home and Henry got involved and it ended up being a little later than we intended.
Meh. It happens.
Eve literally fell asleep on my legs like this with big aerial fireworks blasting overhead.
I love her. And those amazing boys of mine.
I'm glad we could make the best of a bummer situation.
Wish us better luck for our next Pioneer Day celebration!
